Ramadan
During Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Tunisians fast from sunrise until sunset. As the fast is carefully observed, many local restaurants and cafes close, however large towns usually have a few restaurants that open for tourists. Tunisians are not normally put out by tourists eating and drinking during the fast, but it is good manners to be discreet and not eat and drink in public places.
In the evening, once the fast is over, it is easy to find somewhere that serves a Ramadan dinner. Some restaurants stay open for a few hours after sunset so the locals can enjoy a family meal, often followed by a concert or party. Some cafes stay open late for final meal before the fast begins again at sunrise.
