The Ottomans
The Hafsid dynasty ended around 1574, when, with the help of Barbary pirates, the Ottomans took over Tunisia, declaring the country a province of their empire. As well as introducing their complex power-sharing regime involving civil administrators or beys, the Ottomans set about stamping their artistic influences on Tunisia and popularised coffee drinking.
Eventually, in 1628, central rule was re-established by the Muradids, who were succeeded by the Husaynids in 1702.
